Breaking News in Igloo Theme

January 2nd, 2009

Today, new Igloo theme has been released, it’s version 3.1 now! Another major feature was added, Breaking news option and some other enhancements + bug fixes. Breaking news are quite complex and I’ve had lots of headaches over this feature. Posts that are labeled with ‘breaking news’ category appear in 3 steps:

  1. Small Alert box (this box will be visible for 12 hours)breaking-1
  2. Breaking News box (it looks like featured posts on homepage, this box will be visible for 7 days)
  3. Breaking News Post is turned into normal one and is listed among regular posts (this happens when breaking post is more than 7 days old)

Other new features + bug fixes

  • Integrated Image Caption
  • Revised Feedburner management (you can now choose which feedburner server you’re using: http://feedproxy.google.com/ or http://feeds.feedburner.com/)
  • Fixed Footer page management
  • Improved Top page drop down
  • Twitter plugin added
  • Ideas and Tips RSS ticker revised (‘problogger’ and ‘dailyblogtips’ added)

I really like how this theme is growing.

One thing I find missing though is a license.

    cheers

I will add it soon, for now I’m trying to be as simple as possible. You can give me some advice about licensing if you had anything particular in mind? I just want people to leave credit link in footer intact and not sell it further,…that’s it!

I am very new at this and have invested some time choosing and testing themes. Yours is the best!
I have not figured out how to get my image to show in the featured post, though. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the great work!

I followed the tutorial exactly and I do have the proper permissions set. The images show up in the post but do not display on the front page. I found this post below in wordpress forum and was curious if anyone else had this problem.

Here is the fix from hostgator.

The reason they were not loading previously was because the way your sites are loading the images, by sending the full image link URL through a PHP script to re-size the images, was tripping a mod_security rule that was causing the server to throw a 503 forbidden error for security reasons.

I’ve added both domains to a whitelist on the server which will disable that specific mod_security rule for the two sites.

My sites are now working. If anyone else is having the same problem this might be the solution.

Thanks again for the best looking theme and I hope to be up and running soon.

Nice theme – I just added it to my blog. I appreciate how you styled the widgets so they match everything else.

One small thing I noticed: I’m using the text of my blog title rather than an image; I don’t think the style sheet includes a style for the blog title, because it shows up in different fonts in different browsers (presumably depending what their default font is?) It looks like Arial in Explorer and Safari and Times Roman in Firefox.

I still cannot get any images to display on the front page. If anyone has suggestions it would be greatly appreciated because I love this theme.

I’ve already sent you an email, here’s what I wrote if some of you have the same problem: I get this problem from many users (images not showing up) and it’s almost always related to writing permissions in your cache folder (located in igloo theme files). The fastest way to check out if this problem relates to you is to open folder and see if there are any cached files in it – if not you’ll need to set writing permissions to cache folder (search google to find possible solutions).

Also go through support topics and find if there’s anything you might want to know.

    Hi,

I am having the same problem with images not showing on front page. I see in your tutorial something that I do NOT see when I try it… a custom field to copy the link to… I’m not seeing that.

I can tell that this is not the first time at all that you mention this topic. Why have you chosen it again?
