Inuit Types for Artistic Minds

February 10th, 2009

Finally after weeks of work my little jewel is out and I really love it. It is sooo simple and intutive you tend to forget how many features it actually has. My initial idea was to create a theme that has typography polished to perfecction so that artistic minded people would love it – hopefully they will=)

inuitypes_version1

As said before theme has so many features I will just provide you a link to full list, but nevertheless here are some of theme that make this theme unique:

  • Custom translations of all blog areas
  • SEO like nowhere else – seriously – try it and you’ll see
  • Big Fat ‘About my Blog’ Area
  • Simple Pagination
  • Header / Footer Scripts Management
  • Fully Widgetized Sidebar
  • Left or Right-Hand Sidebar by your choice
  • Featured Entries
  • One or Two column entries on front-page
  • WP 2.7 full comaptibility

inuitypes_version2

This time I’ve put so much community work in it I really don’t know what I will do with my next theme, I still hope it will be free but it takes so much time so I’ll have to monetize my work somehow=)

Enough said, explore it for yourself and subscribe to my feed if you’re interested in my next online project!

    I love its simplicity..but, I have something in mind about this theme..you said this theme is Seo friendly..infact, many web designer also said the same thing like that..can you proof it? and describe the criteria of seo friendly theme..

    Ok, no problem,…first of all take a look at title structure for all pages, for instance:

    – On home page title structure is ‘blog title | blog description’
    – On single page ‘post tile | blog title’
    – On category page ‘category title | blog title’
    … you can see that first title is always the one that is relevant to page you are browsing!

    Than you have ‘About my blog’ on front page, which is in H2 tags so that gives some good relevancy to your home page but still it is only H2 as H1’s are reserved for single page titles. As said before H1’s apply to your single post titles so search engines will give most relevancy to your post and not front page (more traffic to single posts rather than to front page).

    Next…page structure is very clean and hierarchically shaped to match search engines demands (title>date>excerpt>content>) with no unnecessary image elements. Also all design elements are bundled in CSS file so search engines only see your content and nothing more.

    Next…there are no links without meanings as every link has a purpose. For instance there are no ‘Read more…’ or ‘Read further…’ links at the end of posts, only titles are click-able as they have a name that links to relevant content to that name.

    Next…because there are no unnecessary design tweaks front page and all other pages are very small to index so search spiders index the whole page and not only first half of it.

    Next…there is almost no JavaScript so search engines don’t have any problems with indexing, they see the whole page as clean HTML and therefore treat it much better.

    There are more tricks (no-index, no-follow) but I don’t want to discuss it here as this comment might turn into blog post=)

    Oh…and I really don’t like to play a smart-ass so try it for yourself, you should see the results after first month when search engines re-index the whole new structure of your blog….But if your blog content is spammy and duplicated from other blogs – god have mercy with your blog=)

    Sir, you just made my day with this GREAT GREAT Theme, thank you, i love it and i think i´m gonna do something with it. The ONLY thing i don´t like about it is that you have to enter the whole url for the images to appear… i think that´s a little bit user-unfriendly, because most people do not store their images on another server… some people just throw their pics into the wordpress folder and then type “6.jpg” in the value field… i can see that you do not want to shut out people who have their images on another server, but most users host their own. plus i´m lazy lol. may be worth another option in future releases to define if you want to use full urls or just want your root to be the default folder? 😀 i´m sorry, i just think full urls aren´t necessary if you don´t want to use pictures from other servers which most users do not. i probably could do it myself but i had struggles in the past with stuff like that when themes had to be updated and i just forget one change i made and overwrote it. I´m sorry that this comment talks so much about the only negative aspect i´ve found in this theme, there are so many positives, i´m really amazed, it´s awesome-o-5000-awesome

      I fully understand your opinion but I just don’t see any other way to show automatically re-sized images. Even if your images are hosted on your blog, path to them goes through many date defined directories (example: http://bizzartic.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/inuitypes_version4.png). I got used to this ‘custom fields’ copy-pasting of images so shortly you’ll get used to it too:)

      If you have any other suggestion I am always ready to listen=)

        Hi Željan!

        See you are busy by this theme. I have searched the comments but still can’t find out how are you all using the custom field in this theme. Could anybody halp me realize how do you set the first two post for this theme in the black tables? And also how do you setup you have the small image thumbs for each post on the homepage.

        Thanks for any answer!

          open index.php template to learn more – it’s hard to explain in few lines if you’re a WP novice so I’d suggest leaning from code itself – pure PHP beauty 😉

    i´ll take a look at it tommorow… i´ve seen at least 3 themes which also use timthumb that don´t require the full url, but i hope i´m gonna figure it out myself without having to go through their code lol… i actually used a theme that forced you to copy and paste the full url but then figured out how to change that. but it didn´t have automatic image resizing so it´s probably a hole different ballgame.. but i definately do not want to go back, so i hope i´ll find the solution tommorow, it´s too late now (have to get up at 5:20am and in germany where i live it´s alreay 0:36am) see you

    Tekzt,

    Of course it is possible, but than it only works for images that are uploaded on your own blog and they need to be uploaded for particular post only – I’ll rather leave it the way it is now;)

    you know what? i installed it and it works exactly the way i want it to, (no full url, just imagepath with wp-content being the root). i didn´t change anything. i also tried it with full urls but that did not work, because it tried to put the domain as a folder. So if the CS-value was your example ‘http://bizzartic.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/inuitypes_version4.png’ it actually didn´t show up. it tried to call for /bizzartic.com/wp-content/etc….. in my wp-content folder. You know that i actually prefer that so i don´t want to encourage you to change it, but you probably will lol

    Hi, I wanted to commend you for both themes you have released so far. I also want to ask if there is a support forum or a tutorial for inuit types? Or should I just refer to the support guide designed for igloo?
    Cheers.

    Hi Zeljan, I have a question. Is there a way to show an excerpt on the front page for the featured post? I want to have it set up to show a one column featured post (one photo at top with title and excerpt) with four posts (two rows of two) underneath.
    From looking at your demo site, these posts have excerpts but not the featured posts at the top. Please advise. Thank you.

      No problem,…just open index.php file in inuit types theme directory and add this code between line 85 and 87:

      <?php echo strip_tags(get_the_excerpt(), ‘‘); ?>

    Sorry Zeljan it is not working.
    Firstly, whenever I edit the code in my directory I check it and get this added to it ‘‘
    And on my home page I get this message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’ in /home/dragonbo/public_html/wp-content/themes/inuitypes/index.php on line 78.
    And when I try to add the code to line 86 (by my counting it is line 94) I get this: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’ in /home/dragonbo/public_html/wp-content/themes/inuitypes/index.php on line 86.
    What do you think???
    If it can’t be done then it is no big deal.
    But, I would love to have a thumb nail image next to my post on the categories page – just like in igloo news.
    I think it helps to break up the text and gives readers an instant idea about the post. Can this be done?
    Cheers mate.

    I was wondering how to get an image on a a page, similar to a post. I would like to add an image to the about page and I tried to add it to the custom field like posts, but it doesn’t show up. Any code tweaks available for this?

    Hello Zeljan. I like your themes very much and I thank you for your wonderful work. Maybe I’ll seem stupid but I have one question: how do I mark/highlight a post as beeing “Featured”. With other words: how do I make a port to appear featured o frontpage? Thank you in advance.

    I’ve found only the settings for the number of featured posts and the way they are displayed (one or two columns). Can’t find any opiton where to define WHICH posts to be published as featured (as it is in Igloo theme). IF I put in options to display 2 featured posts, it publishes the last 2 posts as featured. Can I choose which posts are featured in INUIT? Thanks.

    Hi, Željan. Very nice theme. I’m using it on my blog. Thanks a lot for you. But can you hint me, where I can set number of posts, displayed on main page? Number of featured posts I can set in theme options, but other (non-featured) posts where? Thanks a lot.

      All styles are handled in style.css so you’ll need to edit that file to get customize design. I did have styles option before but got rid of it because it only caused problems for developers.

    Hi Zeljan, A previous poster asked how to get a single column featured post excerpt, with 2 columns (2 excerpts in each column) underneath. Did that work out? I’d like something similar.

    To be exact, I’d like the single column featured post (no photo) to span the page. Underneath the feature, 2 columns, 3 excerpts in each column and a couple of more lines longer in each excerpt. Can this be done? Thanks. Inuit Types is very, very nice.

      Excluding sticky posts from the rest of index isn’t possible at the moment. However if you have som knowledge of WP programming here’s the code to get you started:
      $sticky=get_option('sticky_posts');
      $args=array(
      'post__not_in' => $sticky,
      'caller_get_posts' => '1',
      );

      query_posts($args);

    Hi Željan,

    Good job on this theme, just simplicity and clean.

    Firstly, I have a problem with my custom logo [a href], when clicked on normally it should go to the home page [.com], but in this case it points to a 404 not found page when clicked [.com/onthebuzz].

    Looked in the header.php, adjusted/remove a few but unsuccessful. I am looking at the wrong php file or not doing something?

    Secondly, I wanted to attach a search box, any ideas on how this is done or do I adjust anything in the search php file!

    Kudos on the theme again Željan and any feedback/help appreciated. Onthebuzz

    I have a question similar to Max’s and wondered if you were able to help him with this. I absolutely love this theme and I’ve been using it for about a year. However, I use the one column layout with no featured posts and I find that the excerpts are way too short. is there a way to make the excerpts longer? Can I make it closer to 15 lines instead of 3?

    Thanks!

    I’m so glad I found this template! However, I’ve tried to make the “demo” the default layout, as mentioned in the documentation but it doesn’t appear to be working.

    “Instead of starting from scratch, you may replicate theme demo in seconds. Just upload themename-demo.xml file, located in theme root directory via WordPress Tools->Import->WordPress and you’re done.”

    Any tips on how to get that to work? This is my first WordPress site and I’m trying to save some time.

    Thanks!
