2010 has been tough, but very productive and probably a major milestone in my career. I finished my regular studies for masters degree at faculty of economics and established online business that has become both profitable and enjoyable at the same time. I’m now able to invest a lot more into development and actually turn some ideas into practice, without bumping into obstacles that are related to cash and resources.

It’s now almost two weeks since I updated and optimized my BizzThemes website and Google still hasn’t refreshed a whole site index. What the hell, I thought. So, I went through to research the issue of Changing Google’s crawl rate, which I’m sure a lot of website owners have – probably not even aware of it.

So, what’s the big deal?

The problem with website crawling from search spiders is most obvious, when you update your site, change its structure or transfer it to another domain. If your site is popular, you wont have much trouble as crawl rate is by default a lot faster, but if your site is average, Google will treat you like a cheap hooker – it will give you some attention, but only as much to keep you on the street.

What are the hazards?

• Drop in search rankings
• Slow SEO recovery
• Decreased page rank
• Removal of your site from the index (worst case scenario)

The solution?

I tried almost everything:

• Redirected 404 error to valid URLs
• Refreshed sitemaps
• Re-submitted sitemaps to search engines
• Fixed all other crawl errors
• Refreshed robots.txt

With little success. Now, understanding how Google pays its hookers, I’m testing the most obvious solution, which works, guaranteed:

• I’m refreshing my updated site by linking to it from other web sources, just like this post =)

I’m not sure if this post will help you with your own site SEO, but I’m positive your site will become a better web hooker, if you attract Google’s attention with fresh back links to it – pretty obvious, when you think about it.

I’m happy to announce that 80% of the work on Me’gusta theme is now done and I’m ready to begin beta testing prior to releasing it. Another cycle of development has reached its goal: hierarchical layout engine. Since I started the development process, I wanted to develop a framework that would eliminate any need for custom hard-coded page templates and I’m extremely excited to announce that this is now developed and works like nothing you’ve seen before.

How layout hierarchy works?

If you’re a WordPress developer, you probably understand that there is a hierarchical aspect to every WP theme, which is best seen with http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags (is_home(), is_single(), is_archive(), is_search(), …). This is very useful, when you want to develop a template, that will look differently from others in the same group.

For instance, you want to have the same look for all single blog posts, except for one, which you want to structure differently to highlight its importance. You could develop a custom template or use some conditional tags, but it would take a lot of hard-coding and at least medium level of WP knowledge. I’ve been developing a new theme framework for quite some time now and I think I’m ready to share some of its awesome features with you. From developers perspective, this is a giant step forward, as creating a new theme will now take less than a day if you have a finished design for it. It’s dead simple to use and I’ve not seen anything like it around. Users never get confused as all options are connected to the actual code. As lots of people have contacted me after I’ve announced this new theme framework, I’ve decided to test the idea of BizzThemes as a marketplace for a limited amount of designers. The idea is to have all themes built on bizz framework, so that designers will only code the styling and other theme specific functions. They’ll also apply their own pricing and will earn most of the share (50-60%). Authors will have to provide some support – the rest will be covered by bizz team.

Before bizzthemes.com, I was heavily involved in WP custom development projects, which I still do from time to time, when my busy schedule clears up a bit. I learned everything about WordPress I know today and benefited a lot from working with actual clients. I got a sense of what they really need from a website and turned that knowledge into WP themes I develop today.

Just yesterday I said to myself: “Hey, what’s up with my previous custom projects, are they still active? Did somebody else took over?“. So, here are my most memorable projects from 2009, which were very educational and helped me a lot to develop bizzthemes.com, which has now become my cash cow for the future.

1. http://premiumthemes.net/ (now known as Templatic)

I worked with Bhavesh for approximately 6 months (beginning of 2009), where I helped him developing his designs into working WordPress themes. I developed their framework, which I think they still use today, at least a portion of it. Since I left, disappointed with our collaboration, they developed quite a lot. Even though, they are now my competitors, I wish them well in years to come.

2. http://www.snorkel.no/

This project stayed in my mind, mostly because of the great design client provided. The project was tough and site was hard to develop, but I took it with ease as they knew what they wanted and have provided me with all the materials I needed to wrap it up on time. I was very happy with the outcome and they were as well – mission accomplished

3. http://www.loopanalytics.com

This project was one of the easiest and one of the best. Why? Clients knew what they wanted, so I developed their blog in record-breaking time. I think I worked on the development for a day or two, but still delivered the whole package as promised. Since then, none of my custom WP projects lasts for more than a week.

If you consider I finished at least two projects a month, there were loads of other great ones as well. Even though, they were a bit harder to remember, they’re still great piece of work and will end up being listed on this site, eventually
