Which Type of Business Themes Should I Develop Next?

September 21st, 2009

As some of you might know by now I’m about to launch Premium Business Theme market in coming weeks and I’m almost ready to begin developing two starter themes which will open up the sales. Starting point will probably be more simple themes to stabilise the whole new framework but yet advanced enough to beat the competition and add value to customers businesses.

Which type of businesses am I targeting?

  • Small, local business.
  • 1-10 employees big.
  • Operating yearly revenue $100K – $10M big.
  • Product and service sales.

So what are the options?

1.  Estate Agent Theme

2.  Product Promotion Theme

3.  Travel Photoblog Theme

4.  Single Product Theme

5.  Car Dealer Theme

6.  Team Blogging Theme (Rask style)

7.  Coffee Shop Theme

8.  Portfolio Skin for Thesis Theme

9.  Affiliate Marketing Theme

10.  Individual Portfolio Photoblog Theme

I’d love to hear your opinion so share your thoughts by dropping a comment below!

Real Estate agent themes are needed, but the industry is so messed up that it hardly seems worth it at this point. I just spent several disappointing hours yesterday looking for a Portfolio site, so that’s what I would suggest. People need to promote themselves, and are looking for work on the side, so… Portfolio Skin for Thesis Theme!

I would definitely suggest some original/cool portfolio themes that will get noticed and aren’t the same thing everyone else is doing. While there are a lot of portfolio themes for wordpress (both free and premium), most of them are very lackluster in my opinion.

Do you maybe have any specific requirements to make portfolio theme “original” and “cool”?

I would say something that’s neat and original, but has a lot of options. Definitely a clean look that focuses on the work that said person has done (images using custom fields or like timthumb) that show up on the front page or a section of the front page.

Also, very good typography. it something that I’m trying to do with my SlackrMedia website. It’s something that I think is being overlooked on portfolios and something that really helps make a first impression when somebody visits your website.

Other than that, I would say go for some very organized structure, and either some minimalism or some highly creative and beautiful css and images used in the themes.

haha, does that help you out at all?

I recently started rebuilding my portfolio online and I found that most portfolio themes were either too complicated or TOO simple… I ended up going for Autofocus by Allan Cole (http://allancole.com/wordpress/themes/autofocus/) which is VERY original and cool. I have customized it a lot but the basic framework is fantastic.

I know this is probably not what you’re after but (for the future) one style of theme that I have really struggled to find is quality themes for venues, clubs, societies etc. For example, a music venue, a sports team, a small charity, church or community center. Basically where they can easily list events/dates/details with a calendar, blog function, maybe a gallery, about us or ‘what we do’ section… I think something like this that was good quality and very simple to use would be very popular.
